Case: Elongated octagonal rock-crystal case with gilt-brass rims. Cast foliate pendant, no finial intended. The inside of the lid rim is decorated with engraved bead and reel ornament. A plain gold outer case, probably not original, is not exhibited. Dial: Gilt-brass dial engraved with flowers around and within an engraved chapter-ring with hours I-XII and straight-line half-hour marks. Blued-steel hand. Movement: Oval gilt-brass plates with four baluster pillars. Barrel with ratchet and click set-up. Fusee with gut line and standard stop-work; three wheel going train of gilt-brass wheels; verge escapement, the brass balance is not original. Pierced foliate balance cock pinned to a stud on the back plate. Movement signed: fonnereau A la Rochelle Zacharie Fonnereau, La Rochelle (see No. 31 above for biographical details). Notes: Associated is an Anonymous English (?) Octagonal silver gilt outer box. An elongated octagonal gold/gilded outer box with high domed front and back, to contain a rock--crystal cased watch. Small hinge on one side and a large closing hook on the other. A large cut-out for the pendant but none for a finial. Lined in the back with pink silk.
